REALMS OF THE UNREAL
My work is about play, and jolting people into new perspectives. We can choose our perspective. This reality becomes what you focus your attention on.
Play and experimentation are a vital part to the human experience and psyche. Through these we learn to socialize, invent
and envision new realities into existence.
I infuse this reality with novelty and enchantment through art and play.
I create small portals into unexpected worlds and plant shrines that people can enter. These pieces explore the themes of nature
vs constructed spaces, symbiosis with nature, time and mortality in balance to create an aesthetic that embodies Realms of the Unreal.
These pieces blur the distinctions between fine contemporary art and craft, sculpture and painting, decorations and sacred objects.
Many of my pieces are made from bits of bones, driftwood, moss and toys that I find on my adventures. To me, each object comes with its own stories and history. For instance the bones, are a reminder of the complexity and fragility to life and our place within nature.
I hope that my art serves as a portal from drudgery of life into the present moment, to spark curiosity and suspend boredom for just a moment for all of us.
